Discussion:

Emergency response requires a wide range of measures aimed at protecting life, property and coping with business disruption.  When disaster strikes, swift but "steady-hand" decisions and actions are necessary to mitigate the impacts, prevent further loss and stabilize the situation to restore immediate order and work towards reestablishing normality.

This workshop draws on the experience of industry leaders on how they prepare, manage, and implement strategies to control, avoid, minimize, or eliminate unacceptable risks in all phases of disaster planning.  We will discuss how organizations use risk assumptions, risk avoidance, risk retention and risk transfer strategies (or any combination) in making sound and compassionate choices in the proper management of events.  The workshop will also discuss parallel preparedness and coordination with numerous external organizations (communities, intergovernmental systems, insurance, recovery / preservation experts, etc.) in an attempt to minimize loss and reestablish business operations.
