Event Description:

John Hancock, one of Boston’s oldest and most iconic financial institutions, has centralized its business operations in Back Bay.  In an effort to improve corporate culture and create an activity-based work environment that supports collaboration between its business units, the corporate real estate department lead a multi-division team to bring employees from their Seaport location to their historic Back Bay headquarters. The consolidation project was achieved within 9 months of receiving approval to proceed; come see the transformation and learn how it was accomplished.

Shaun Johnson, Facilities Director,  John Hancock

Shaun Johnson is Facilities Director of U.S. Corporate Real Estate for John Hancock.  He is directly responsible for the planning and implementation of all projects and Facilities requirements for John Hancock’s U.S. Headquarters and Field Offices in the US.  over the course of his career he has managed projects ranging from small 5,000 sq. ft. field offices to 400,000 sq. ft. multi-phase consolidation projects.  Throughout his career Shaun has also worked at Plymouth Rock Assurance &Thomson Financial. Shaun graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with an Associates in Architectural Engineering and a BS in Facilities Management

  

Bruce Pearson, Managing Director of U.S.,  John Hancock Real Estate

 

Bruce Pearson is Managing Director of U.S. Corporate Real Estate for John Hancock Real Estate, under the umbrella of leading Canada-based financial services group Manulife Financial. He is directly responsible for all operations and facility requirements, leasing and financial impacts related to John Hancock’s U.S. corporate real estate portfolio, covering more than a million square feet of office space and serving thousands of employees. Over the course of his career, Bruce has engaged in every aspect of commercial real estate management, including negotiating leases for over 3 million square feet, development of three office buildings in Washington, D.C., a stint in Tokyo to stabilize and sell a portion of their newly acquired Japanese operations, and asset manager for John Hancock’s Mid-West investment real estate portfolio.

  

Melodee Wagen, MCR President, Workspace Strategies, Inc.

Melodee Wagen, MCR, president and founder of Workplace Strategies, Inc., is a thought leader, speaker, and author in the field of workplace innovation with more than 25 years of experience delivering value to corporations, institutions, and academia. Melodee often works as part of the client team to fully understand what is and is not working within the workplace, leading them through strategic plans to help them find solutions for their business and their employees. Prior to the founding of Workspace Strategies, Inc., Melodee was the Senior Practice Leader for Consulting Practices at GHK, Griswold, Heckel, and Kelly Associates, Inc. While at GHK, Melodee led national projects in strategic planning, change management, and evaluations and analysis. Melodee was also the Senior Planning Analyst at Harvard University. In this position she produced and implemented short- and long-range strategic plans for building resources of Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which includes Harvard College and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Melodee holds the Master of Corporate Real Estate certificate from CoreNet Global; a business degree from Radcliffe College; and Bachelors and Masters degrees from Western Michigan University. She received the 2016 Exemplary End User Award from the Boston Chapter of IFMA. She is a frequent speaker at national and local industry events and is Past- President of the IFMA Corporate Facilities Council Board. Melodee also served for many years as adjunct faculty at Wentworth University. Melodee participated in the IFMA Workplace Summits at Cornell in 2012 and in London in 2014. She is a candidate for the Workplace Management Certification from IFMA. Publications and speaking engagement s include the IFMA World Workplace Proceedings 2000, 2004, 2008, 2013 and 2016; IFMA Facility Fusion Proceedings 2012, 2014, 2016; the Canadian Facilities Management & Journal; and IFMA’s Facilities Management Journal
