With over half of all Fortune 500 firms in 2000 no longer on the list in 2017, success in today's business environment demands an innovation-driven culture, highly resilient to the disruption that has become common place across miltiple industries. The connection of physical space to creativity is critical to being competitive and the design of the workplace is an organization's greatest tool for driving the innovation that's required to succeed. The science that underpins the design of environments is evolving rapidly and is shifting our approach to creating high performing environments built for innovation. Rather than "machine age" metrics of staff efficiency and the conservation of capital, we will present a new set of metrics that allow us to unlock the potential in our people and lead us to innovative problem solving. Research suggests workspaces that integrate well-being, provide choice and create opportunity for chance encounters improve employee engagement and increase speed to market. This presentation will explore workplace strategies that foster such environments as well as share how our industry can lead the way to a transformative change in thinking about the value of the built environment.
