Alexandra Daum joined the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) in March of 2020. As deputy commissioner and chief investment officer, she helps drive public investment in local economic development projects and initiatives across Connecticut, including greenfield and brownfield commercial real estate transactions, public-private partnerships, urban revitalization efforts, and Opportunity Zones. 
 
Previously Alexandra enjoyed a successful career in real estate, both in Connecticut and California. She served as Senior Development Manager at NHR Group and as the Founder and Principal of Field Properties, managing 10 residential assets in New Haven. Prior to that she worked at Trammell Crow Residential in its Northern California division. At TCR she was the project manager for a range of innovative developments including workforce housing on publicly-owned land, a public-private partnership to develop a new ferry service, and a luxury high-rise tower in downtown San Francisco. 
 
Prior to TCR, Alexandra worked in Bain & Company’s San Francisco office consulting on corporate strategy and in the Office of Public Engagement at the White House. Alexandra received a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Richard is one of the world’s leading real estate economists. He joined CBRE in 2014 as Executive Director and Global Chief Economist. He is based in Boston and, as CBRE’s Global Head of Research, leads a team of 700 researchers worldwide, whilst travelling and speaking extensively on key real estate trends. He is Chairman of CBRE Econometric Advisers a specialist real estate forecasting unit. He has numerous academic and trade press publications to his credit including a highly regarded book called ‘Real Estate and Globalisation’ (Wiley Blackwell, Oxford), which deals with the impact on real estate markets of the rise of emerging markets such as China and Brazil.  
 
He is a Visiting Professor of Economics at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Reading.
David Griggs
President and CEO
MetroHartford Alliance
 
In his role as President and CEO of the MetroHartford Alliance, David Griggs works with leaders of the region’s private-sector employers to ensure that the organization is strongly positioned to leverage economic development opportunities through planning, research, data, marketing, and project management. He also partners with public-sector decisionmakers to address the needs of the private sector that will enhance the MHA’s capacity to drive economic growth, retain jobs, and create new jobs in a variety of sectors for generations.
 
David brings extensive experience to the MHA, having worked for more than seven years at the Greater Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) Regional Economic Development Partnership, a similarly focused private-public nonprofit organization accelerating job growth and capital investment in the Minneapolis Saint Paul region. There, he served as Vice President, Business Investment and Research, where he led business outreach and research efforts to attract and retain jobs and investment. 
 
David also served eight years with Buffalo Niagara Enterprise (Buffalo, NY), the last four as Business Development Director, where he worked closely with site selectors, corporate and commercial real estate partners, and other key professional advisors to build the western New York regional economy while retaining existing companies and recruiting new ones.
 
David holds a Bachelor of Science, Urban Planning and Regional Analysis, from the State University of New York, Buffalo State College and a Master of Planning degree from the University at Buffalo. He achieved the Certified Economic Development Professional (CEcD) professional certification through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and his Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) certification through the National Development Council. David is also an Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Board Member.

Susan C. Winkler
Executive Director
Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services (CT IFS)
 
Ms. Winkler represents the workforce and business interests of 30 major insurance and financial services [IFS] companies in the state of Connecticut, USA, including P&C, life/retirement and health insurers as well as financial services companies and service providers. Ms. Winkler provides strategic direction and management to a Board of Directors across the common goal of economic development including major initiatives in workforce development, public advocacy and business attraction. As an industry leader, she manages strategic, public-private, high priority projects of business recruitment, selling the strengths of Connecticut’s IFS industry, and the Insurance Capital of the U.S., to bring net new jobs to the economy.
 
The CT IFS continues to be recognized as an industry-cluster model in the U.S. –with its long-standing, public partnerships with the State of Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development, the State Department of Banking and the Connecticut Insurance Department.
 
Previously, Ms. Winkler worked as Facilities Strategy Manager at The Hartford Financial Services where she assisted the site selection decisions of its U.S. real estate portfolio.
 
Ms. Winkler is a Board member and co-founder of Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (NINA) currently acts as Co-Chair of the Advisory Board for Weaver High School/High School, Inc., Hartford’s public high school dedicated to insurance and finance. She also resides on Central Connecticut State University’s School of Business Advisory Council and the Actuarial Science Advisory Boards for the University of Connecticut, the University of Hartford and the University of Saint Joseph. Ms. Winkler received her B.A. from Central Connecticut State University and has a Business Masters Certificate from the University of Connecticut School of Business.
