This year marks CoreNet's Philadelphia Chapter's eighth year supporting Philabundance, the region's largest hunger-relief organization. Philabundance provides food to 90,000 individuals each week via neighborhood distribution programs and 350-member agencies, including food pantries, shelters, and emergency kitchens in the Delaware Valley.
There was a significant increase in the need for food during the pandemic. Philabundance distributed 55 million pounds of food in 2020, which is 60 percent more than in 2019. A considerable portion of the food distributed went to first-time visitors of agency partners.
Our volunteer work will occur in Philabundance's Hunger Relief Center near the Philadelphia Sports Complex in South Philadelphia on Wednesday, January 12th, from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm. Check-in begins at 8:45 am, Orientation at 8:55 am, and the shift starts at 9:00 am. The Center is the main distribution center for the organization's sorting and packing operation to support supplemental and emergency food items. Our work is safe and secure and involves sorting and packaging cans and boxes of groceries and packaged meats. The work is lightweight, easy, and rewarding.

Important Notice: The CDC now recommends that everyone, including fully vaccinated people, wear masks in public indoor settings "in areas with substantial and high transmission to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant." The safety of our employees, volunteers, and the community we serve remains the utmost priority.
What this means for Philabundance:
* All staff and volunteers must wear a mask indoors when social distancing is not possible, i.e., walking through the buildings, interacting with another person, or working in a group.
* Daily sanitizing of high touch point areas in our facilities.
* We are encouraging social distancing inside our buildings.
