EDIB Committee - Pronoun Training Session by Oracle
Language is constantly evolving; the importance of pronouns
You might have been taught in English class that “they” and “them” describe a group of people, while “he” and “she” describe a single person. But language is constantly evolving, and you need look no further than the foremost authorities on language: dictionaries. In 2019, Merriam-Webster updated its entry for “they” to include the nonbinary pronoun among its definitions. It also named “they” its word of the year. Merriam-Webster recently added a new definition in its entry for “they,” noting that the pronoun is also used to refer to an individual whose gender identity is non-binary.
Join our Chapter’s EDIB Committee on September 1st at 1:00pm to experience how Oracle’s Employee Resource Group is training their employees on the importance of using pronouns. The Pecha Kucha presentation provides employees an overview of why respecting other colleagues gender pronouns is important in the workplace. Our panel will touch on the experience of our non-binary employee Shane Landrum and their experience identifying with they/them pronouns in the workplace.
