Now More Than Ever: A Primer for Equity Work In Our Organizations

Diversity should not simply be the goal. Diversity is just the first step.

Belonging only comes from building authentic lines of communication that make all voices feel valued and heard.

Inclusion is about changing the structure of our Leadership so that new voices have an equal role in growing our businesses.

To our leaders in the Commercial Real Estate industry, this starts with defining our WHY? Why does this work matter to us as individuals? Why is this work critical to our enterprises and Why does this matter to the future of our CoreNet community? Many organizations genuinely want to adopt an equity lens for their work but are often at a loss as to where to begin, how to do the work well, and knowing what is necessary to sustain it.

Heather Hackman addresses these questions by offering six foundational concepts used in Hackman Consulting Group’s work with various organizations. Regardless of sector or size, these key concepts help organizations understand what equity work is and is not, how to frame the work in accessible ways, and how to use some basic tools to get the work going.

While racial equity is on the minds of many right now, and rightfully so, in order to address the broadest range of challenges in organizations today, other forms of equity will be discussed in addition to racial equity.
