In a nutshell, Real Estate Investment Trusts are corporations that own and manage real estate. REITs issue units, as in stock shares, giving investors access to the income generated by the REITs property portfolio. Introduced in the early 60s in the US, REITs currently exist in 38 countries with a total market capitalization of USD 1.7 trillion. While they are yet to gain popularity and momentum in India, the first listed REIT was launched by Embassy Office Parks, backed by Blackstone Group LP, in April 2019. With 3 to 4 additional REITs under discussion and a potential to cover USD 35 billion investment across 300 million sq.ft. join our guest speaker, Michael Holland, to understand the relevance and impact of REITs for corporate occupiers in India.
